Step 5Admitted

Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Transformative·Many describe this as the most emotionally powerful single day in their recovery. Make space for it.

Secrecy is the enemy of recovery. Step Five is where the isolation that addiction builds is finally broken — by speaking out loud, to another person, the truth you have been carrying alone.

Before we begin Step 5

I have sat across from many people doing their Fifth Step. I have heard things that took decades to say out loud. And I want to tell you what happens every single time: the person on the other side of the table does not leave the room. They do not recoil or judge. They stay, and they say some version of 'me too.' That is the miracle of Step Five. You have been alone with this for so long. Today, you stop being alone with it.
