Step 6 — Readiness

“Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.”

Step Six is about willingness — which is harder than it sounds. Some of our defects have served us for so long that we can barely imagine who we would be without them.

Step Six is the step most people rush through. They read it, say sure, remove my defects, and move on to Seven. But sitting with this step honestly reveals something important: not all of us are actually ready for all of our defects to be removed. Some of our defects feel like survival tools. Some feel like the only way we know how to get what we need. The gap between what we say and what we actually want is exactly where real recovery work lives.
