Step 7 — Humbly Asked

“Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.”

Step Seven is a single sentence and a single prayer. Its brevity is intentional. The step itself is simple. What it requires — genuine humility — is not.

After all the writing of Steps Four and Six, Step Seven can feel anticlimactic. It is short. There is no inventory to write, no person to confess to. But do not let the brevity fool you. This step requires something that takes a lifetime to develop: genuine humility. Not self-deprecation. Not shame. Not performing smallness. Humility — which the program defines as seeing yourself clearly and accurately, without inflation or deflation.
